MY SCHOOL TEACHING DIARIES - DAY 7

  4/3/2021                                                                                                                             THURSDAY

Today,my glass began at 5:30 pm in the evening. I tried to make an attempt to interact with the students through simple talks in between recalling the properties of metals learned in previous classes. Today,I taught them about the chemical reaction of metals, that is about the reaction of metals with air in specific.

I began by discussing about various day to day life instances which involve the reaction of metals with air through examples such as rusting, green coating on copper utensils etc. To identify this reaction, I showed them an old copper wire and a new one to note the kind of impact that air has brought on them. Also from the second activity, I made them recognize the fact that reaction of air lead them to lose their lustre. The first half half of my class ended with the revision of concepts learned till then followed by questioning them.

The second half of my class began at 6:00 pm itself, during which I discussed about reaction of metals with water. Students themselves identified an example for this. They mentioned about  old ship remains in water turns rusty after prolonged exposure to water. I demonstrated the vigorous reaction undergone by sodium and potassium in water. From this I could also justify the reason for storing potassium and sodium in kerosene. Also,by asking them to list out few instances of metallic reactions with air and water ,I ended up the class.
